According to the updated seventh issue of the Smart Centres Index (SCI 7), published by independent experts Z/Yen, the city of Astana has risen 11 positions in the rankings and now ranks 54th.
The Smart Hub Index examines the ability of global commercial centers to create, develop, and implement technology. Astana was included in this index for the first time in November 2022.
“The index provides a snapshot of what shapes the global landscape of innovation and technology today. In a rapidly evolving world where technology shapes the future, it is critical for states and financial centres to be at the forefront of innovation. The AIFC is committed to developing the financial industry through innovative approaches, including the development of an ecosystem for digital assets and creating opportunities for growth. I express my sincere gratitude to the authors and respondents of the 'Intellectual Centres Index'," noted Renat Bekturov, Governor of Astana International Financial Centre, in his welcoming speech for the seventh issue of the Index.
The SCI 7 was compiled using 136 instrumental factors provided by various organisations such as the World Bank, the Economist Intelligence Unit (a research and analytical arm of the Economist Group that provides forecasting and advisory services through research and analysis), the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development, and the United Nations.
A total of 131 cities were surveyed as part of SCI 7, of which 77 were rated.
