On December 21 this year, a regular meeting of the subcommittee on infrastructure and logistics will be held in the format of a videoconference The Advisory Committee on Transport and Infrastructure, reported press center of MTI RK.

During the meeting, the committee members will discuss the implementation of priority integration infrastructure projects in the field of transport of the EAEU member states.

It should be noted that in August last year, the heads of government of the EAEU member states approved a list of 7 priority integration infrastructure projects aimed at developing Eurasian transport corridors and routes, transit potential and transport infrastructure.

At the same time, at the meeting of the subcommittee, it is planned to discuss the initiatives of the Kazakh side to supplement this list with 2 new projects:

  •  development of the eastern international transport corridor "North-South" with the modernization of the existing railway infrastructure on the sections "Orsk - Kandagash Makat - Beineu – Bolashak", "Iletsk-1 –Aktobe", "Chelyabinsk -Tobol – Nikeltau", "Aksarayskaya - Makat", "Shalkar - Beineu - Mangystau";
  •  development of the Russia-Central Asian Countries corridor: construction of the Darbaza- Maktaaral railway line; construction of the second railway tracks on the Kazaly- Arys section.

In general, work on the further development of international transport arteries is being carried out in implementation of the proposal of the Head of State, announced at the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council at the end of May 2023.

Then the President of the country proposed to launch high-speed freight trains along the Chelyabinsk-Bolashak-Iran railway using the existing infrastructure of the North-South transport corridor and the creation of a freight consolidating center in Chelyabinsk.

The second initiative was the willingness to reconstruct bottlenecks in the Kazakh railway network "Beineu – Mangystau" and on the section of the highway "Beineu – Shalkar".

These initiatives are based on the annual growth of cargo flows through Kazakhstan in the directions Belarus - Russia -China, Russia - Central Asian countries and the North-South ITC.

In general, in order to make full use of the existing transport and logistics potential of the EAEU, the Kazakh side intentionally promotes Kazakhstan as a logistics hub.
